Former Control Tower Heathhall Industrial Estate Heathhall

Based around the original control tower of the former RAF Dumfries, the museum is a fascinating collection of aircraft and memorabilia reaching back to the golden years of flight. The Museum is staffed and maintained entirely by volunteers from the membership of the Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Group. They are dedicated to the cause of preserving aviation heritage for future generations. The Museum's main exhibits are not roped off, which allows visitors the freedom of gettting close to the aircrafts which includes - the F-100 Super Sabre, Lockheed T33, De Haviland Vampire T11, The British Airways Trident 111, and the Gloster Meteor T7. There is also an opportunity to sit in the cockpits of the Mystere Jet Fighter, the Sycamore Helicopter, the mobile display exhibit featuring the Canberra T4 Cockpit, or at the controls of 'Green Goddess' Fire Engine. The weather needn't be a problem, as the control tower is home to a collection of artefacts and memorabilia, and literally is crammed to the roof. Accumulated from many sources, the collection displays flying clothing from both World Wars, rescue equipment and many items recovered by the Museum's team form various crash sites. Outside in the garden is a picnic area, whilst indoors a range of souvenirs are available from the gift shop, and refreshments can be purchased from the snack bar. Whether you are an avid 'Aero Buff', ex services or looking to while away a few hours, the Museum has something of interest for everyone.
