Art-Sense works to improve and promote access to art for visually impaired people. It works with galleries and museums to develop equality of access to buildings, exhibitions and collections, and provides opportunities to make art through artist-led workshops.” What Art-Sense does • It promotes workshops which enable people with impaired vision to make multisensory art and sculpture. • It advocates best practice in providing opportunities for people with impaired vision to appreciate art. Art Speaking This project enabled some visually impaired people to achieve enhanced access to particular art works within permanent collections at four galleries in the West Midlands using trained audio describers and allowing for supervised close access to the exhibits. This project was funded by Arts Council West Midlands. Art-Sense provides: Training for art gallery staff at all levels and other art professionals in awareness of the implication of vision impairment in the art gallery and art practice arenas. Consultancy services for art galleries and other arts organisations which need to enhance access to art for people with impaired vision.
