The History of Advertising Trust (HAT Archive) was established in the UK in 1974 by a small group of individuals who believed that the best of UK advertising should be preserved for posterity. In 1978 HAT was established as an educational research trust and a registered UK charity [no. 276194]. Its initial brief was to encourage and sponsor the study of all aspects of the growth and development of advertising. We welcome students, academics and all other 'non profit' people and organisations to HAT Archive. Our charitable activities are supported by researching, archiving and digitising for commercial clients and by selling our publications.
Research visits can be arranged by appointment (except Fridays). The archive is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm. It is closed only during Christmas and Bank Holidays.
Admission/Research Fees This is made in the form of a student membership donation. The daily rate is: Student (to 23rd birthday) £24.00 Student (23 years onwards) £28.00 Individual or post graduate student £40.00 If subsequent consecutive days are required at HAT, an additional fee of £20.00 + VAT is payable per day for research services.
