Several French and British rugby players died or were seriously injured during the course of the fighting between 1914 and 1918. Among these men, several fell on the Chemin des Dames in the Aisne Department. First among them, Ronald Simson, considered to be the first British international player to die during the Great War, who dies on 14th September 1914, near Cerny-en-Laonnois.
