Extensive coastal area around the fishing village of Brancaster Staithe, famous for wild birds. As well as the site of the Roman fort of Branodunum and Scolt Head Island (to which there is a private ferry service), there are tidal mud and sandflats and saltmarshes to explore. For those who prefer a more structured visit, there is the well-resourced Brancaster Activity Centre, which offers residential and day visits for schools and group accommodation for families and adults at weekends and outside term time. The centre also organises '50' Things’ events on Brancaster beach and Blakeney Quay in school holidays
