Norwich 12 is the UK's finest collection of individually outstanding heritage buildings spanning the Norman, medieval, Georgian, Victorian and modern eras. The group consists of: Norwich Castle, Norwich Cathedral, The Great Hospital, The Halls - St Andrew's and Blackfriars', The Guildhall, Dragon Hall, The Assembly House, St James Mill, St John's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Surrey House, City Hall and The Forum. Individually each building is exceptional, but seen as a group they form an internationally important showcase of English urban and cultural development over the last millennium. Not only do the buildings have great architectural value in themselves, they also house important religious, civic, commercial and other institutions which have helped to shape the city's development, as well as cultural collections of international significance. Rather than standing in ruins, each building continues to play a pivotal and thriving role in city life whether as a visitor attraction, community building, a place of worship or learning, as an office building or coffee shop. Norwich 12 is a dynamic and exciting collection that offers something for everyone: opportunities to walk around the 12 buildings independently or by a guide; visitor attractions; exhibitions; music and performances; gift shops; cafes and restaurants. As well as Norwich 12, the city boasts a wealth of other amazing heritage assets such as the largest intact medieval street pattern in Europe and more standing medieval churches - 32 - than anywhere north of the Alps. It is not hard to see why Norwich deserves to be known as one of the premier heritage destinations in the UK and Europe.
