John Hansard Gallery is one of Britain’s leading public galleries of contemporary art. Part of the University of Southampton, we support, develop and present work by outstanding artists from across the world. Established in 1979, we are proud to play a dynamic role in the cultural life of Southampton and the region. We’re a place to visit for extraordinary experiences, where you can see and think about the world differently. John Hansard Gallery is getting excited about the move to our new location in Southampton’s Guildhall Square in May 2018, marking our long-awaited, purpose-built city centre gallery space as part of a brand new arts complex for Southampton. As part of Studio 144, the new complex will provide a stunning visitor attraction at the heart of Southampton’s thriving cultural quarter of museums, galleries, theatres and music venues, situated around Guildhall Square. As well as John Hansard Gallery, Studio 144 will also be home to Southampton’s leading producing theatre company, NST, Nuffield Southampton Theatres, alongside City Eye, Southampton’s inspirational supporter of film culture. Side-by-side in the new arts complex, John Hansard Gallery, NST and City Eye will present world-class art exhibitions, inspirational performances, outstanding resources for film-makers and creative events for all ages, each venue contributing to extending the range and quality of arts and culture in the city.
